Why We Invest In Students To Dev Health Solutions — Cavista Tech Boss

Cavista Tech, a global technology company, recently hosted a 48-hour hackathon at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, UNILAG. The event had in attendance over 150 students from UNILAG, Lagos State University, LASU, and Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH, pitching solutions that leveraged Artificial Intelligence, AI, to boost the health sector.

The event aimed to identify talents, expand them, and provide global opportunities for these youngsters. It also saw students showcasing their research and focusing on food and disease aspects.

The hackathon provided a platform for the students to grow and launch their innovative ideas, which could have a significant impact on the health sector.

The Executive Director of Cavista Tech, Bamidele Odufuye, explained that the competition was designed to test the students’ knowledge, and skills, and help them think from a world market view position so they could be better prepared to build solutions that fit the real-world market.  “We have decided to focus on health and also leverage on how AI can help in accelerating the health sector. This is because the sector is lagging.”

The success of last year’s hackathon led to students working with Cavista Tech. This year, the event was viewed worldwide, live-streamed, and attracted investors to the business and other opportunities.

“We are confident that emerging students here, not just from these events, going forward, we’ll keep supporting them with opportunities. Again, our company has invested millions of dollars in growing talents in Nigeria,” Odufuye explained.

Nine out of the 50 groups will have finalists, with the winner going home with one million naira, and the two runner-ups will receive N750,000 and N500,000 each.
