A Professor of Environmental Management at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Isaiah Akoteyon, has urged Federal Government and private sector to increase investments and prioritise renewable technology, to improve efficiency.
Akoteyon, acting Dean, Faculty of Environmental Services, LASU, gave the advice in Lagos at the Society of Energy Administrators (SEA) of Nigeria, Energy Administrators’ sixth Annual Conference and Induction of Associate Members. The theme of the conference was: “Advancing Energy Process Environment Climate Adaptation Standardisation: Panacea for Climate Change and Sustainable Cities and Communities in Nigeria”.
Akoteyon said more funds should go into research and development, to improve renewable energy efficiency, energy storage solutions and grid integration.
He said: “There should also be policy integration of environmental considerations.”
“Governments should set stricter environmental regulations, to limit emissions from fossil fuels. This is a major standard.’’ Akoteyon added that governments and private investors needed to also promote energy efficiency technology.

“There’s need for public awareness and education. This is very essential to raise public awareness about the importance of energy conservation.”
“Campaigns that educate consumers in reducing energy use and adopting energy-efficient practices in our everyday life will reduce carbon emissions and overall energy consumption.
“There is also need for energy access as part of the recommendation on this presentation.
“Cross-border energy integration is very important. I’m sure this body will look at these recommendations,” he said.
