TRCN Inducts First UNICAL Institute of Education Graduates
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, has inducted the first set of Professional Teachers from the University of Calabar Institute of Education.
The induction ceremony which was held at the Senate Chambers of the University witnessed the Induction of well over 50 graduates of the Institute into the TRCN.
In a remark to declare the event Open, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Zana Akpagu expressed his delight at being part of history and commended the institute on the achievement.
Prof. Akpagu also congratulated the Inductees for a well-deserved success noting that the event lends credence to their tenacity and hardwork.
Similarly, the University administrator appreciated the TRCN for promoting the programme adding that all Teachers and Lecturers alike should endeavour to undergo some professional training.
In a welcome Address, the Director, Institution of Education, Unical, Prof. (Mrs.) Sarah Nicholas Oden while congratulating the Inductees said by Taking the Oath of allegiance, they were boldly declaring that they are Teachers and proud to be one.
Prof. Oden expressed her joy that TRCN Act 31 of 1993 has the mandate to regulate and control the teaching profession in all ramifications in Nigeria, adding that, she looks forward to the period when only professionally certified persons in the teaching field will be appointed into office as either Commissioner for Ministers of Education.
In the same vein, the Registrar/ Chief Executive officer of the TRCN, Prof. Addison Mark Wokocha said he feels elated to be part of the epoch making event noting that it has further demonstrated the resolve of Unical to continuously support TRCN in the achievement of its mandate.
Prof. Wokocha who was represented by the Acting Director, professional operations, TRCN, Mr. Ahmadu Bello, also informed that as a regulatory body, it is the desire of TRCN to see a army of teachers equipped with the requisite capacity to ignite inspiration in learners.
Responding on behalf of the inductees, Mr. Odu Bonaventure Akan, thanked their teachers, parents and the University of Calabar for all the sacrifices and investment in making them who they have become.
He also appreciated the TRCN for finding them worthy of being inducted pledging that, in the pursuit of their profession, they will always strive to be good ambassadors of both their alma mater and the TRCN
The highly colourful event featured an induction lecture on the topic, “Professional Teacher: The Ambidexter Pharos” delivered by the very erudite Professor of Education, Prof. (Mrs.) Suzanna Umoh.
