Governor’s son lands in police net over murder of secondary school student
Khaleed Umar Al-Makura, the son of Nasarawa State governor, Umar Al-Makura, has been arrested for killing a student of Government Secondary School identified as Ovye Amos, who died on Sunday night when he went to buy batteries for his torchlight and was knocked down by a car that was being driven by Khaleed.
Fellow students of the deceased who were angered by the development staged a peaceful protest demanding that the case should not be swept under the carpet despite the position and influence of the governor’s son. The students insisted that Khaleed must face the full wrath of the law.
Aliyu Tijjani, Nasarawa State commissioner for Education in his reaction said the government had taken measures to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to book.
“He has already been arrested. I want to express my profound dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very very unfortunate,” he said.
Goodluck Agwu, the school head boy, also corroborated that Amos was hit by the car driven by Khaleed when he went out to buy batteries for his flashlight around 8:00pm.
