What do you get when you combine spring colors, one of the world’s top fashion houses, and a popular online store? This isn’t a riddle — it’s a description of Versace’s capsule collection with Mytheresa, which is launching globally on March 11.
Made up of 16 pieces, including a pleated skirt, a knit turtleneck, and a beret, Versace x MyTheresa gives a few of the brand’s most recognizable details a fresh twist. Its iconic golden print is combined with seasonal pastels, and although a curve-hugging dress is included in the mix, so are a pair of leggings and a bralette. It’s also worth noting that the signature safety pin makes an appearance, attached to suit pants as well a tiny pink miniskirt.
“The idea was to create a capsule collection that had, at the same time, a touch of heritage but always a ‘now-feeling,’ if you know what I mean,” Versace’s Chief Creative Officer, Donatella Versace, tells InStyle, exclusively, over email. “The print, for example, is taken from the archive, but the silhouettes are the ones that we use today. This is usually the way I create in general. As I like to say, with an eye to the past and the other to the future.”
Right now, Donatella is pretty partial to the light blue turtleneck (“These days, I am feeling particularly cozy.”), but every piece from the collection pairs together so well, it’s hard for her to choose a favorite. She also doesn’t believe there’s a right or wrong way to wear these designs.
“I like to mix and match pieces, or use colors to create a style that belongs only to me,” she says. “I have said clothes are not just pieces of fabric that cover your body, but they always say something about who you are, how you feel, or how you would like the world to see you. I do not want to sound superficial or anything, but clothes are the most immediate way to achieve that self-expression. Then, obviously, what matters the most is what you say and your attitude towards the world, but this is a completely different conversation…”
