The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan held a final interview for shortlisted candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
It was gathered on Thursday that no fewer than eight professors participated.
After the interview, three candidates are expected to be selected out of which three will be picked and one will be announced as the new VC.
“Expect the announcement soon,” The PUNCH was told.
The process of electing the 13th VC for the premier university had been marred with various allegations on the processes set by the former VC, Prof. Idowu Olayinka.
The UI VC race started in May 2020.
But the decision to restart the VC selection process was reached at a meeting of the university council held on Friday, July 2, 2021, and presided over by its Chairman, Chief John Oyegun.
The Council also resolved that apart from the cancellation, the VC position should be re-advertised.
The meeting also set a new timetable for the commencement of the new process to be released in the second week of July, 2021.
Sixteen professors are contesting to become the 13th substantive VC of the university and the successful one is expected to be named on tomorrow.
Some of the contestants for the post of vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan on Monday presented their agenda at a meeting organised by the UI Community Forum.
The forum is comprised of the unions, including students union, and the meeting was organised for members of the university community to know those jostling to become the new VC.
Four of the contestants who were physically present during the presentation were a former UI Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Adeyinka Aderinto; Prof. Rasaq Kalilu of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso; Prof. Hakeem Faweyinmi of the University of Port Harcourt and Prof. Ganiyu Aderounmu.
