Telecom’s Car Prize Win Excites Katsina Varsity Student

A 400-level Industrial Chemistry student of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Abubakar Bature Sani, has described winning a brand-new car through MTN Nigeria’s ‘Live It 100 on Campus’ initiative as an experience he never imagined, as the telecommunications company brought its campus activation to the institution for the first time.

Sani, who emerged as the fifth car winner under the initiative on Tuesday, expressed excitement and gratitude, saying he never thought he would receive such a valuable gift.

“I have no words to thank MTN. Firstly, I’ll thank Almighty Allah for giving me this opportunity to get this brand-new car. I never thought I could get such a prestigious gift in my life,” he said.

The three-day campus activation, held from October 27 to 29, 2026, featured a range of entertainment, gaming, and interactive activities, with students winning several prizes, including laptops, refrigerators, microwaves and other items.

Speaking during the activation, the Senior Manager, Youth and Teens Segment at MTN Nigeria, Temilolu Salako, explained that the decision to bring the experience to FUDMA was informed by the fact that no telecommunications company had previously visited the institution for a similar campus engagement.

He noted that MTN recognised the university as an important community with a significant number of its customers and saw the activation as an opportunity to connect with students while demonstrating the company’s commitment to the institution and its surrounding community.

“So we realised over the years that no telco has visited FUDMA. So it was very important to look at areas where people had not been to, and we have a lot of customers in FUDMA, in Katsina. So we thought to bring the experience to FUDMA to show that we love them and we are here to stay,” Salako said.

He added that the initiative reflects MTN’s broader commitment to giving back to its customers, creating meaningful opportunities for young Nigerians and engaging them through experiences that reflect their interests, lifestyles and evolving digital needs.

Tagged “Live It 100 on Campus”, the initiative is part of MTN’s youth engagement drive, designed to connect with students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria through entertainment, learning, gaming and cultural activities. It also seeks to strengthen MTN X, formerly known as MTN Pulse, as a preferred telecommunications and lifestyle brand among young Nigerians.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman, commended MTN for bringing the initiative to the institution, just as he equally expressed appreciation for the company’s investment in student engagement and also praised the students for their good conduct throughout the activation.

Our correspondent reports that through the “Live It 100 on Campus” tour, MTN continues to create opportunities for young Nigerians to connect, unwind, and explore rewarding experiences, while strengthening its relationship with students across the country’s tertiary institutions.
