Benjamin Phehla was hit by a car outside campus. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

On Wednesday student formations on campus held their own memorial service.

Phehla was based at the TUT Soshanguve campus where he was a student leader and former Student Representative Council (SRC) member.

This is the first confirmed student death related to the FeesMustFall protests this year.

A car driver lost control and drove into a group of protesting students, killing Phehla and injuring three others. Phehla died on Friday morning in hospital after the students were taken to hospital.
