Skilful Minds Wholesome Initiative for Women and Children (SMWIWC) has held its fourth annual programme, ”The Breakingforth”.
The event, an inter school competition among secondary school pupils, was a platform for young teenagers to showcase their talents and skills in poetry and spoken words.
Convener, Damilola Oluwasola, executive director, addressed pupils on importance of believing in themselves and the need to find the right path.
She noted that the organisation nurtures talents and mentors pupils through the event every year.
Chijioke Otikpa, physiotherapist and corporate trainer spoke on “Breakingforth Beyond Limits: Leveraging Digital Innovations,” stressing the need of using technological tools to promote skills.
Mrs. Lawrenta Akhimimen spoke on “Breakingforth Beyond Limits: Challenges as a young teenager, and” addressed some limiting beliefs and how to overcome them.
Thirty pupils from secondary schools in Abuja participated this year. After evaluation by the judges, Mr. Sheriff Gbadamosi and Mrs. Esther Kalu, pupils from Royal Mystica Academy, Abuja, came third, while those from African Child College in Abuja came second.
Pupils from Shiloh Solid Start Montessori School, Abuja, were named champions, winning an HP laptop.
Other prizes included copies of The Priceless Possession, by Damilola, and Road To Fulfillment, by Lawrenta, as well as bags, branded wear, etc. Pupils got certificates of participation.
Civil society, partners and guests commended the organisation for the programme. The first two editions were in Ado-Ekiti in 2021 and 2022, While the third held last year in Abuja.
SMWIWC also got an award from Young African Leaders Initiative in Abuja at the annual Impact Conference this month.
