Prof. Felix Salako appointed new FUNAAB VC

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has approved the appointment of Prof. Felix Salako as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Salako born in 1961, was until his appointment, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) of FUNAAB.

According to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Aboki Zawha, who made this known in a statement released on Tuesday, the appointments were guided by the law establishing the university.

Zawha said that the council set up a committee which screened the applicants as well as a technical committee which ensured they complied with the rules.

The technical committee, he said, came up with a list that was presented to the selection board.

According to him, recommendations were made to the council and we approved the list and other recommendations that were submitted.

The new vice chancellor is a Professor of Soil Physics in the Department of Soil Science and Land Management.

He attended Igbobi College, Lagos, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained B.A Agric (Hons) and M.Sc degrees in Soil Sciences in 1983 and 1986.

Salako later bagged his Ph.D in Soil Science from the University of Ibadan in 1997.

He joined the services of FUNAAB in 2000 as a Senior Lecturer and moved up the academic ladder to become a Professor in 2006. (NAN)
