It was celebrations galore last week at Darmstadt, Hessen State, Germany, when 16 years old German-born Nigerian student, Ademola Adelekan knocked out his opponent, Dome Ismail, in less than 2 minutes in the middleweight division of the Kick-boxing finals organized by the State.
The fight had barely started, when Adelekan had his opponent in trouble, causing the referee to have a talk with Dome Ismail.
Few seconds after resumption of the fight, Adelekan had Ismail on the canvas, leading the officials to stop the fight.
The new champion’s father, Mr. Monsuru Adelekan, said he was left in shame after the fight. According to him he did not give his son a chance to even qualify for the finals and was totally humbled when he won the fight.
“Ironically, I was so ashamed for not going with Nigeria Flag and my friends because I never expected him to even qualified for finals not to talk of winning the competition. I was just the only African in that hall screaming with unbelievable excitement to see my little boy – lifted the Mixfightcup”, he said.
