Nigerian Military establishes University of Technology in Borno State

According to Punch Reports, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has announced the establishment of a university owned by the military at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff first quarter conference held on Monday, April 3, 2017 in Maiduguri.

Burutai, who spoke at the Multipurpose Hall of the Command Guest House said that the Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies has been upgraded to Nigerian Army University of Technology and Environmental Studies, Biu, in Borno State.

“The university was conceived as a unique one that will be different from conventional universities in Nigeria.

“The concept is to make it a solution provider and a centre of excellence for a variety of technologically related ventures such as generation and armament production.

“In pursuant of this laudable initiative, the Borno state government has allocated 5000 hectares of land in Biu for this purpose,” he stated.

The Army chief further stressed the commitment of the military in rendering humanitarian aid to victims of insurgency in Nigeria by providing support to organizations invested in such activities.
