The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) will hold its 3rd matriculation ceremony on Wednesday, 26th February 2025, at its Ikorodu campus.
In a statement today, LASUSTECH Deputy Registrar of Senate Affairs, Olufemi Adebanjo said the event will officially welcome new students into the university’s academic community, marking another milestone in its pursuit of excellence in science, technology, and entrepreneurship education.
Adebanjo emphasised that LASUSTECH is committed to ensuring a successful ceremony.
“We’ve always had successful matriculation sessions, and every year we improve on what we did last year. Arrangements have been made to enhance the venue, distribution of gowns, and registration process,” he said.
He added that: “Matriculation signals that you are now a bonafide student of the university. This is a university of excellence. We are just starting, and we want to start with excellence so that it will be a continuous tradition. Avoid bad company, drugs, and make the most of your lectures.”
Speaking on LASUSTECH’s accomplishments, Director of Information & Public Relations, Olanrewaju Kuye highlighted the university’s remarkable progress.
He said: “The aim of any university is research, teaching, and community service. I must tell you, we are doing well in those three areas. Despite being a new university, we have collaborations with universities in Ghana and Britain, and many of our lecturers are securing research grants. The community around us also benefits regularly from our services,”
Kuye acknowledged that funding remains a major challenge for most Nigerian tertiary institutions but emphasised that the State Government has been supportive and innovative.
He explained that LASUSTECH recently completed a successful accreditation exercise, further proving its commitment to delivering high-quality education.
“The accreditation, conducted by relevant regulatory bodies, assessed academic programmes, infrastructure, faculty strength, and operational standards. The university not only met but exceeded the requirements, receiving commendations for its state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge research, and student-centred approach.
“Established through the Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978, LASUSTECH began as Lagos State College of Science and Technology (LACOSTECH) before transitioning to Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) in 1986. It was officially upgraded to a university on 2nd February 2022, following the signing of a bill by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the subsequent issuance of a certificate by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 38 academic programmes across five colleges.”
