Lagos State Government has urged pupils in the state schools to report cases of abuses whether or not they happened to them.
Director, Citizens Rights, of the Ministry of Justice, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, who gave the advice, also urged the pupils to know their rights and be ready to defend them when infringed upon.
Ms. Oshinusi stated this yesterday at a sensitisation programme to students of Ijegun Community Primary School.
The sensitisation campaign is in furtherance of One Stop Child Justice Centre, an initiative of Directorate of Citizens Right, aimed at reducing the spate of child abuse in the state and ensuring that minors are protected from abusers.
The director emphasised said there is a solid framework for the fundamental human rights of the young pupils and they have enough protection against all forms of abuse in the Constitution.
“The Directorate for Citizens’ Rights is responsible for the protection and enforcement of fundamental human rights of residents of Lagos State. One of its units under the Directorate is ‘One Stop Child Justice Centre’, which handles all child-related matters in collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government like Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, among others.”
She said the Department of Citizens Rights will continue to protect the rights of children as provided under the Child Rights Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Head Teacher Community Primary School 11, Ijegun, Mrs. Abosede Kowe, commended the State government for bringing such initiative to their school.
She promised to continue to enlighten the pupils more on their rights.
