The King’s College Old Boys Association will hold its 114th Founder’s Day from September 18 to 23, 2023.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, in Lagos, chairman, Kings Week planning committee, Mr Olumide Akpata, said a House of Representatives member, Mr Akin Rotimi, would discuss the theme of the event titled, ‘Dismantling the barriers: Creating a pathway for the emergence of effective leaders in Nigeria.’
Other guest speakers according to Akpata are All Progressives Congress’ 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State, Mr Tonye Cole; Action Democratic Congress gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Mr Funsho Doherty and a former deputy governor of Abia State, Mr Enyinnaya Abaribe.
He said, “The college will commence the 2023 Founders’ Day celebration with a first-of-its-kind virtual conference on Monday, September 18th.
“The Monday event is scheduled to be followed by a ‘Back to School Day’ during which Old Boys will visit the school, take a tour, and commission projects and items donated to the college. This tour is expected to also serve as a State-Of-The-School assessment by Old Boys present.”
Akpata said that the members of KCOBA would also hold a career day for younger old boys and 553 students of the college on Thursday, September 21, adding that the event was planned to focus on providing guidance and prepare the attendees for the future of work.
He revealed that Minister of Works, Mr Dave Umahi, would be the guest speaker at the Old Boys dinner on September 23 at the Civic Centre Lagos.
President, KCOBA, Mr Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, explained that “Kings Week is the high point of the Old Boys Association’s celebration every year. The Founder’s Day is in commemoration of the establishment of this college on September 20, 1909.”
