Caf Champions League campaigners, Enyimba FC are billed to leave Nigeria on Sunday ahead of the midweek second round, second leg tie against Etoile du Sahel in Caf Champions League. They have set up training camp in Lagos to finalize their build up to the cracker.
The People’s Elephant have a 3-0 advantage from the first leg played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt through Mfon Udoh’s hat trick and the sole Nigerian team on the continent have not taken progress for granted despite the healthy lead.
The team left Akure for Lagos on Thursday day after they faced Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled NPFL Match Day 3 tie which they lost 2-1.
A top official of the club told Goal that Enyimba arrived Lagos on Thursday and settled at Agege area of the city with their sight on making use of the Agege Stadium for their training ahead of the trip to Sousse.
“It is the determination of Enyimba to get to the group stage of the Caf Champions League and with the kind of advantage that we had in the first leg, we don’t want to give anything to chance because we know North African clubs always have their own way of doing things to favour them. We are going to Sousse on a clean slate because it is the only way we can show them that we are ready for the task at hand,” the official told Goal.
Enyimba players were at the Agege Stadium to watch the NPFL Match Day 12 tie between MFM FC and Wikki Tourists and they are expected to use the facilities at the stadium before they depart Nigeria for Tunisia on Sunday.
Enyimba and Sunshine Stars are the last two Nigerian clubs to get to the group stage of the Caf Champions League, with both sides reaching the semi finals in 2011 and 2012 respectively before they were beaten by North African opponents Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco and Al Ahly of Egypt 1-0 and 4-3 on aggregate in that order.
