Poly For Fourth Combined Convocation, 20th Anniversary

Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, is set for its fourth combined convocation and 20th anniversary of the institution scheduled for tomorrow.

The institution said the week-long programme would feature religious services, institutional engagement, exhibitions, recognition of service and celebration of the graduands.

Addressing reporters during a news conference to herald the event, the Rector, Dr. Mobolaji Onasanya, said the two-in-one celebration would provide opportunity to celebrate academic achievements and perseverance of the graduating students.

Onasanya, an engineer, said the combined convocation comprised five academic sessions, starting from 2021/2022 to 2025/2026 sessions, with 7,419 of the graduates receiving National Diploma, while 2,137 will get Higher National Diploma in disciplines.

He said: “For our fourth combined convocation, which comprises five sets of graduates from 2021, 7,419 are for National Diploma, while the Higher National Diploma graduates are 2,137.”

Onasanya says as the polytechnic marks two decades of service, this will also give an opportunity to reflect on its journey, acknowledge contributions of those who have helped shape its progress and set out its aspirations for years ahead.

According to him, the main event will celebrate achievements of the graduands and recognise contributions of the polytechnic’s founders, successive governing councils and management teams, workers, students, parents and guardians, alumni, government, regulatory bodies, host community and development partners.

He noted that the institution over the years had continued to strengthen its capacity to deliver practical, industry-relevant technical and vocational education.

He said under the present management, the institution had pursued improvements in infrastructure, academic provision, staff welfare, student support, digital services and institutional administration, adding that there was still important work to do because the progress made so far reflected the commitment of workers and support of stakeholders.

“The completed School of Environmental Technology building, Twin Science laboratory and Engineering laboratories are among the facilities expected to be inaugurated during the celebration.

“The event will also feature the sod-turning for the proposed School of Communications complex, signalling our intention to continue investing in facilities that support quality teaching and learning.”
