The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI), Osun State, has commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for its commitment, diligence and professionalism in coordinating and disbursing student loans to beneficiaries of the institution.
The university, in a letter of appreciation dated August 14, 2026, praised NELFUND for ensuring that eligible students benefited from the student loan scheme despite the closure of the application portal.
The letter, signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mutafau Olaye Atayese, described the fund’s intervention as a source of significant financial relief to students of the newly established institution.
According to the university, NELFUND’s proactive approach, persistence and effective engagement with relevant stakeholders helped secure a successful outcome for its students.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the timely processing and disbursement of approved funds had strengthened students’ confidence in the institution and reinforced its commitment to providing accessible and quality education.
The university further stated that NELFUND’s efforts had contributed significantly to the smooth implementation of the federal government’s student loan initiative within the institution.
A breakdown of the disbursements contained in the letter showed that the university received a total of N65,198,000 in two tranches for the 2025/2026 academic session, benefiting 306 students.
The first tranche, received on June 18, 2026, amounted to N57.51million and covered 270 students, while the second tranche of N7.688million was received on July 22, 2026, for 36 students.

The commendation underscores the importance of the student loan scheme in supporting access to higher education, particularly for students who may face financial difficulties in meeting their educational expenses.
NELFUND, established under the federal government’s student loan initiative, provides financial support to eligible Nigerian students to help them pursue their education without the immediate burden of paying approved institutional fees upfront.
The university’s commendation also highlights the role of collaboration between tertiary institutions and NELFUND in ensuring that eligible students can access the scheme and that approved funds are disbursed to support their education.
