Five Highest-Ranked Universities In Nigeria In 2026

The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as Nigeria’s top-ranked university in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, with four other institutions comprising the country’s top five. 

The ranking evaluated 32,148 universities and higher education institutions worldwide, focusing on digital visibility, openness, and research excellence.

Below are the five highest-ranked Nigerian universities in the latest July 2026 Webometrics ranking:

  1. University of Ibadan (UI)

The University of Ibadan (UI) retained its position as Nigeria’s highest-ranked university in the July 2026 Webometrics ranking.

UI ranked 1,291st globally, making it the leading Nigerian institution among those assessed.

Its ranking reflects the importance of digital visibility, access to academic resources, and research impact in determining universities’ global standing. 

  1. University of Lagos (UNILAG)

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) ranked second in Nigeria and 1,355th globally in the latest Webometrics assessment.

The university’s position places it among Nigeria’s leading institutions in digital visibility, openness, and research excellence.

  1. University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) ranked third nationally and 1,397th worldwide.

The ranking placed UNN ahead of several other prominent Nigerian universities in the latest Webometrics assessment.

  1. Covenant University

Covenant University, Ota, ranked Nigeria’s fourth-highest university, placing 1,522nd globally.

The private university was also the highest-ranked private institution among Nigeria’s top five universities in the latest ranking.

  1. Landmark University

Landmark University completed Nigeria’s top five, ranking 1,659th globally and fifth nationally.

Its inclusion means two private universities—Covenant University and Landmark University—featured among the five highest-ranked Nigerian institutions in the July 2026 Webometrics ranking
