Nigerian professionals based in Egypt have established an agricultural development centre at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, to strengthen research, promote modern farming techniques and create employment opportunities for youths.
The group, Association of Nigerian Professionals in Egypt (APNEG), said the initiative is designed to boost agricultural productivity, deepen knowledge exchange between Nigeria and Egypt, and support sustainable economic growth.
The centre, named the Benedict Oramah Learning and Development (BOLD) Centre, is located in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture. It is equipped with information and communication technology (ICT) facilities to enhance international collaboration and improve agricultural enterprises through partnerships with industry stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Benedict Oramah described the centre as a platform for learning and youth empowerment.
He said the establishment of the facility reflects APNEG’s commitment to education and capacity development.
“APNEG used this centre to convey its commitment to education and learning. It provides an avenue to reach many young people and empower them,” he said.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of OAU, Honourable Adejare Bello, who led the university’s management team to the commissioning, commended the initiative.
Bello said partnerships between government, private individuals and organisations remain essential for strengthening education and advancing development.
He added that the launch of the OAU–Afrexim Institute for AfCFTA Studies would further support the objective by providing the manpower required to drive the African Continental Free Trade Area and promote a unified African market.
