Niger Varsity Sacks Lecturers, Rusticates Students Over Exam Malpractices

The Vice Chancellor Of Newgate University, Prof. Sadiq Yussuf, Has Disclosed That The University Dismissed Two Lecturers And Rusticated Five Students In A Move Aimed At Sanitising And Strengthening The Institution’s Academic System.

The VC Made This Known During A Media Briefing Where He Further Disclosed That The Institution Adopted Stringent Measures Against Examination Malpractices, Which He Said Resulted In The Disciplinary Actions.

The Action, Yussuf Added, Is Also Sequel To Newgate University’s Arrangements To Conduct Its Maiden Convocation Ceremony, Which Event He Said Would  Be A Landmark Moment In The University’s History

Arewa PUNCH Gathered That A High Point Of The Convocation Will Be The Conferment Of First Class Degrees On 14 Outstanding Students Out Of The 207 Graduates At Its Inaugural Convocation Ceremony.

The Ceremony Is Slated For Wednesday, December 3, 2025, At Its Campus Along Minna-Bida Road.

“A Total Of 207 Students Will Be Graduating Across Three Faculties, Which Comprise 14 First Class, 81 Second Class (Upper), 88 Second Class (Lower) And 24 Third Class, Respectively.

“A Total Of 102 Female And 105 Male Graduands Will Receive Degrees During The Convocation,” He Said.

However, Yussuf Noted That Despite Facing Daunting Challenges Such As Funding, Infrastructure, And Accreditation, The University Has Achieved These Milestones Through The Support Of Its Management Team, Students, And Stakeholders.

“There Are Always Some Challenges, But With A Capable And Supportive Management Team, We Are Working To Overcome Them. We Are Able To Achieve What We Have Today Through Their Support And Cooperation Of Our Students,” Prof Yussuf Said.

The Vice Chancellor Pointed Out That The University Was Established In May 2022 And Currently Runs 13 Academic Programmes Across Four Faculties, All Duly Registered By The National Universities Commission And Other Relevant Professional Bodies.

He Further Highlighted Some Major Milestones Recorded By The University, Including Growth In Student Enrollment From 350 To Nearly 2,000, Full NUC Accreditation For 10 Programmes With Three Scheduled For Upcoming Cycles, And Professional Accreditation Of Nursing And Medical Laboratory Science Programmes.

“Others Are A 79 Per Cent Pass Rate In The Recent Nursing Council Examinations, Development Of Modern Classrooms, Laboratories, And ICT-Driven Learning Systems And Expansion Of Community Outreach And Institutional Partnerships,” He Said.
