Achievers Varsity Matriculates 902 Students, Warns Against Cultism, Social Vices

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Achievers University, Owo, Prof. Omolola Orinoye, has said that the institution has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices.

Prof Oriloye, declared that the institution will prosecute and sanction any student found violating its rules and regulations.

She said this weekend, at the 17th matriculation of students for the 2023/2024 academic session, where 902 students matriculated into various 38 undergraduate programmes in the university.

According to her “ Achievers University has zero tolerance for laziness, bullying, cheating, cultism, stealing and other social vices that compromise your being the best of you and prevent you from making the best of your time while you are supposed to commit your time and person to your education.

“ The university does not take kindly to lackadaisical attitude towards your academic responsibilities. Lateness to classes, failure to mark attendance, rude behaviour and bullying of colleagues and staff are not acceptable.

“ Be informed that the students’ Disciplinary Committee is ever ready to prosecute and sanction any student who flouts any of the school rules and regulations,” she stated.

The Vice Chancellor who enjoined the new students to always attend classes for lecture, said that failure to score 75 per cent class attendance would deny their participation in examinations.

According to her, any student caught in examination malpractices will pay a very high price for such indulgence.

Orinoye, said that the institution was committed to support quality education and to provide a conducive teaching-learning environment for students and staff.

According to her “part of the university’s corporate social responsibility is to make education accessible to many young people and buffer the economic hardship on parents and guardians, students from 15 programmes were offered 100 per cent tuition free scholarship.

She added that students from a set of 11 programmes would be offered 80 per cent tuition free while students in all seven engineering courses are given 65 per cent tuition-free.

The institutions Pro-Chancellor, Dr Bode Ayorinde,  told the students to report any harassment, bullying of any kind from fellow students and staff to authorities of the university for prosecution.

Dr Ayorinde urged them not to die in silence, adding that the institution would not condone any act of indiscipline.

He said  that the institution’s products were doing well in Nigerian society and abroad, adding that the vision of the university was to transform the students in doing great in their various academic  fields.

He asked parents to play their roles as expected in paying school fees and in proper monitoring.

“ Report to us of any harassment from anybody. We are not magicians; except you tell us. We won’t disclose your name. We will treat the matters under confidentiality.

“ Don’t be lured into drugs. Discipline is so high here. You cannot go to lecture late. And to the female students, you  can be whatever you want to be in life. Don’t be deceived.

“Women, you can conquer the world, don’t allow men counterparts to destroy you,”

Delivering the matriculation lecture, Dr Temitope Abiodun Oluwalade, informed the students that the primary purpose of being in the university was to attain best academic excellence.

Speaking on the lecture entitled “ Creating Your Path to Greatness: Roadmap to Academic Excellence, Oluwalade, said that the essence of education is not only certification but it is to be deeply rooted in knowledge, integrity and leadership.

The guest lecturer urged the matriculating students to shun dangerous habits.

Oluwalade said that they should know the difference between enjoying their youth and destroying their future.
