Manchester City’s teenage hotshot Kelechi Iheanacho has declared that his side is ready for Tuesday’s Uefa Champions League first leg semi-final clash against Real Madrid.
It’s a first ever semifinal appearance for City, whose stars have promised to win the trophy as a parting offer for departing manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Fresh off their 4-0 bashing of Stoke City at the Etihad over the weekend, the Nigerian starlet believes the side is primed for the Madrid challenge.
“This game [against Stoke] was great preparation for us before we play Real Madrid. On Tuesday, we need to focus and work hard because they’re a good side. We are prepared to face them,” Iheanacho told club website.
“The Champions League is a big tournament so we need to focus and get the mood ready and get everything right to play. We must work hard and concentrate on every ball.
“We really need to win here because at their home it’s not going to be an easy game. It’s a great achievement for the club to be in the last four of the tournament but it would be a dream to get to the final so we’re really hoping for that.”
The 2003 Fifa U17 world Cup MVP also revealed he’s enjoying his partnership with top striker Sergio Aguero and expects more fruitful results as the season winds down.
“I’m very pleased to play with Sergio. It’s a big thing so I’m really happy and looking forward to playing with him in the future,” he continued.
“I really need to work hard every game and every training. Every time I’m in I really need to show character and show that I deserve to be in the team so I really work hard until the end.”
