A 26-year-old Nigerian student, Okonkwo Daniel Anagor, has been arrested by officials of the NDLEA with 10.255kg of narcotics concealed in a bag or garri at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to the NDLEA Commander, Ahmadu Garba, Anagor who was on his way to the United Arab Emirates was arrested with 10.255kg of narcotics concealed in a bag or garri, alongside other suspected traffickers.
“The suspects are 26-year- old student Okonkwo Daniel Anagor, who was caught with 2.810kg of Tramadol on his way to UAE; Lawal Monsuru Ademola, 33-year-old trader was arrested with 3.310kg of methamphetamine on his way to South Africa; Ogbonna Donatus Chigozie was caught attempting to smuggle 610g of cocaine to Pakistan,” Garba said.
Anagor told investigators that the drugs were not his, that his trip to the UAE was to further his education. “I was travelling to UAE for vacation and to further my studies but they called me from there that somebody will give me garri in Lagos. “When I got to Lagos, the person called me and gave me the bag of garri.
“This is my first time of travelling outside the country. At the airport, the garri was searched and 445 sachets of Tramadol were found inside the bag. That was how I was arrested.”
Several Nigerian students have been arrested for drug trafficking within the country and abroad.
