Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, as a result of his passion to develop the Epe campus of the college, has vowed to replicate the likes of Ikeja Computer Village at the campus.
Dr Adbul made the disclosure at a meeting with the community leaders and elders of the Odoragushi community in Epe, which had in attendance the matriarch of the Otedolas, Lady Doja Otedola,.
This was the second visit of the college’s management to the community.
The rector, whom Lady Doja Otedola declared to the entire community as her adopted son, noted that the future of YABATECH is in Epe campus, saying that is why the management is focusing on replicating a ‘Computer Village’ in Odoragushin community, to complement and expand the existing vocational skill centres with proper certification.
He assured the community leaders that there would be continuous training for people in the community as preference would be given to the youth on how to repair phones; sale of phones, including other after sales services, among other areas of Information Communication Technology (ICT) under the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE)’s Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
He disclosed that “YABATECH is collaborating with the Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) in the area of phone repairs and that afterwards, the certified trainees will also be equipped with tools to work free-of-charge.
“As this has been carried out in our Lagos campus, the opportunity will be extended to the Epe community at large,” he noted.
The rector also hinted that to ease the admission burden of the Epe youth, a foundation school will be constituted in Epe campus, to take care of the enrolment of secondary school holders in the town through which they could automatically gain admission into the college.
Abdul said YABATECH is ready to do the needful to ensure that all the promises made to maintain a good and cordial relationship with the Epe people and Odoragunshi community and to contribute to their developments are fulfilled.
Also, present at the meeting were the Olisa of Odoragunshi, who is also a regent, Chief Tiamiyu Kamorudeen, Baba Adinni of Odoragunshi, Alhaji Adenola, and the chairman of Odoragunshi Community Development Area, Alhaji R.E. Ambali.
Alhaji Ambali, who spoke on behalf of the Odoragunshi community, admonished YABATECH not to relent on reciprocating the good gesture of the Otedola’s family and the entire Epe community for giving it a piece of land to build on.
He appealed that the indigenes of Odoragunshi should be considered in terms of admission, substantial appointment and other benefits that would further engender harmonious relationship between the college and the community.
Lady Otedola who could not hide her joy, buttressed the points raised by the rector, saying that the relationship will no doubt enhance and foster the development of Epe youths.
