Who is Seni? Bukola Saraki’s son who took home the Grammy Awards

Oluwaseni Saraki, son of former senate president Bukola Saraki, was one of the winners of the Grammy trophy at the 67th edition of the prestigious awards held on Sunday, January 2 in Los Angeles.

Seni earned his first Grammy Award for his contribution to the Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack, which won Best Reggae Album.

In an interview at the Grammy Awards, Seni shared his excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to such a landmark project.

Reflecting on his involvement, he said, “I mean, it’s crazy. I got brought into the project and helped bring a few of the artists together, and they’re honestly just incredible. This is the second time I’ve worked on a soundtrack like this. Working with this team has been amazing—they are the best in the business.”

The One Love soundtrack was released in February 2024 through Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong and Island Records. Seni expressed gratitude to the artists, producers, and engineers who collaborated on the project, emphasizing the significance of reinterpreting Bob Marley’s legacy.

“Thank you to all the amazing artistes, producers, and engineers brave enough to take on this project. Bob Marley is a legacy—an incredible, iconic artist. For them to take on these songs, reinterpret them, and make them their own—Bloody Civilian, Wizkid, Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caesar—they’re all incredible artists,” he added.

The album features powerful renditions of Marley’s classics by Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Shenseea, Farruko, Jessie Reyez, Mystic Marley, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley.

After his youth service in 2019, Seni partnered with Nike to create a special-edition jersey under the “Nike by The NATIVE” line, which had a distinct design which took inspiration from Adire, a traditional Nigerian fabric. The jersey featured ‘+234’ on the sleeve, a reference to Nigeria’s international dialing code, which Seni said was a tribute to the thousands of Nigerians living in the diaspora but who retain close ties to home. Written boldly on the back of the jersey is “Ilé,” a word which means home in his native Yoruba language.

As a musician and rapper with the stage name Shane Chubbz, Seni has released several songs including “Hail Mary” and “Holiday / Where I’m From”.

His foray into music climaxed in 2022 when he played a significant role in the production of the Nigerian segment of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.
