Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that his administration would give more support to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) to strengthen its capacity to retain its ranking as the university of first choice in the country.
Fubara spoke on Tuesday, August 22, after inspecting the level of work done at the Convocation Arena, an ongoing project of the state government at the university.
A statement signed by Fubara’s special assistant, media, Boniface Onyedi, said the government upon returning from Abuja where he led leaders of the state to the inauguration of the immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, went straight to some project sites for inspection.
The governor described the auditorium as important to his administration adding that its completion would help the university retain its current first-place ranking.
He said: “I am doing everything that is necessary to complete this project and continue to see that the university ranking still stands.
“When I visited the project site about two months ago, the contractor assured me of completing it so that it will be commissioned among projects to celebrate our first one hundred days in office.”
Fubara noted that aside from inaugurating more school infrastructure in the coming days, his administration was poised to roll out other programmes like youth empowerment and sustained support for small and medium-scale businesses in the state to improve the economic well-being of Rivers people.
Fubara also inspected the state-owned Bombardier Global 5000 (N565RS) aircraft at NAF Base which had just returned from maintenance.
