UNNEC students shower encomiums on Glo for Campus Storm initiative

Excitement ruled the air at the Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria on Friday October 21, when the Glo premium nationwide students’ concert, the Glo Campus Storm took place, pulling students from key higher institutions within and around Enugu.

The animated students, having waited anxiously for the arrival of the Campus Storm crew from Port Harcourt, trooped into the White House Auditorium in their thousands,  garbed in evening wears and looking forward to having a memorable experience.

First to perform was Hip Hop act, Runtown. He appeared onstage looking dapper in a black sweats shirt and shades. While telling the nostalgic story of his ‘growing-up’ days in Enugu as he sang, the artiste elicited cheers from his fans who feverishly identified with him. He performed many of his hit songs such as “Lagos to Kampala”, “Galado”, “Baby Answer,”  “Banger” and “Bend Down.”

MI’s introduction on stage was earth shaking. The tumultuous crowd who couldn’t control their urge to dance surged forward to have a feel of him as he performed his evergreen tracks,  “One Naira”, “African Rapper Number One” and “If Nobody Talks About You”.

Timaya wrapped up the show with a scintillating performance. The bearded dude gave the students more than what they bargained for when he performed “Shake Bum Bum”, “When Money No Dey”, “Dem Mama” and other songs.

Among the key highlights of the concert were the Mr. Glo Campus Data Dude and Miss Glo Campus Data Diva contests which were keenly contested by 18 gorgeous looking young ladies and 18 handsome gentlemen.

In a unanimous decision by all the judges, Ogbuefi Pascal, a 500 level undergraduate of Medical Radiography emerged Mr. Glo Campus Data Dude (UNEC) while Ikpe Igbe Joy a 400 level student of Law won the Miss Glo Campus Data Diva. Both winners carted away a hundred thousand naira each.

A few of the students who aired their views on the concert expressed heartfelt gratitude to the sponsor, Globacom for developing the Campus Storm initiative.

One of the respondents, Ifeanyi Atuchukwu, a 200 level Architecture student said that the show, for him, was a means of relaxation from his tedious studies which take most of his time. “This is coming at a very good time. We study all day in this University and hardly have time to relax. So this concert came at a time when students are mentally fatigued and need to cool off a little, ” he said.

Tobechukwu Ezenna, a 400 level student of Accountancy and fan of Timaya who clung unto him after his performance, couldn’t thank Glo enough for the opportunity of meeting his Idol, saying in a loud voice,  “This is Timaya live in UNEC courtesy of Globacom. Glo is da bomb”.

The voice of three female students echoed in the background “Glo! we want more shows, we want more shows”.

The Glo Campus Storm music concert will be held in 24 campuses nationwide and will extend to April 2017.
