UNIUYO final year student murdered by hoodlums

A final year student of University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Stanley Mbanefo, of the department of Geography has been murdered by suspected cultists.

According to report, the hoodlums stormed the Idak Opok community on Monday night around 10:30 pm and shot the victim who was preparing for his NYSC in November at a close range while trying to escape from a shop.

A community leader, chief Eno Clement who witnessed the incidence said that the assailants shot Stanley in the arm, and some residents the community rushed the victim to a hospital in the area where the doctors tried to remove the pellets from his arm.

A doctor, who wants to remain anonymous said they already removed 14 pellets, while the victim has received blood transfusions because as of the time he was brought in, he had lost a lot of blood.

According to another eye witness, identified as Ekaette, the hoodlums also attacked shop owners, commanded them to lie face down while they made away with valuables, including cash, mobile phones and laptops.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, promised to give details of the incidents later. He urged members of the public to cooperate with police to eliminate criminal elements.
