UNIOSUN Students Get Research Grant, Scholarships

Twenty-four students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have benefitted from the university’s research grants and scholarship awards and a United States of America-based Osun group.

The university management in its commitment to foster a robust research culture among undergraduate students in its maiden edition released a research grant of N500,000 to support some final year undergraduate students whose research projects were found to be outstandingly excellent in conception, execution and ultimate potential for societal impact.

Also, a USA-based group, Osun Development Forum (ODF) Texas, granted a scholarship of N1.6 million to 16 students of the institution under its scholarship scheme, which aims to support brilliant and less-privileged students from Osun State.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, who disclosed this at yesterday’s award presentation, said such interventions are needed across Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Represented by the deputy vice-chancellor (academics), Prof. Adetunji Lawrence Kehinde, Adebooye disclosed that the university grants were awarded to a group of seven students whose research proposal is titled, “Biogas Production from Cattle Dung for Processing Shelf-Stable Sausage Treated with Indigenous Medicinal Leaves, while the second grant went to Oluwafisoye Oluwapelumi, who intends to develop a locally fabricated programmable voltage-current loop calibrator system.

He stated further that beneficiaries of both the university grants and Osun Development Forum awards emerged through a transparent process.
