Kwara State government on Tuesday arraigned before an Ilorin High Court eight persons suspected to have raped and murdered 24-year-old student of University of Ilorin Olajide Blessing Omowumi.
The suspects’ arraignment did not start last week beacause three of them did not have legal representation.
Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Moses Oluwatimileyin, Oyeyemi Timileyin Omogbolahan, Abdulkarim Shuaib, Kareem Oshioyemi Rasheed, Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Bashir Adebayo and Akande Taiye Oladoja were charged with rape, murder and armed robbery.
Police said the suspects raped and killed a 300-Level student of University of Ilorin in her residence located at Tanke area of the Ilorin metropolis on June 2.
The defendants were arraigned by the Kwara state government.
At yesterday’s proceedings the eight suspects pleaded not guilty to the 11-count charge preferred against them.
Presiding Judge Ibrahim Yusuf dismissed the application for bail, saying it is a capital offence.
Justice Yusuf adjourned the case till today (Wednesday) for hearing.
