UNILAG Alumni Offers Technology Program To Students

University of Lagos Alumni Association, Lagos State branch, kicked-off free three months technology program, ‘GOS Up-skilled Initiative’ on product design, data analytics, web development, graphic design and digital marketing, for the students of the institution.

The opening ceremony of the program, took place, at Afe Babalola hall, on Tuesday.

Key sponsor of the event, Senator Olarewaju Solomon Ganiyu, urged the Alumni of the school, to always give back to the school. He also, urged participants of the training to utilize the opportunity given to them.

“I am always happy whenever I remember I attended this University. The Alumni chairman came to me and introduce this program. I gave my full support. I appreciate the Alumni association for their efforts.

“Works in an institution cannot be handled by the institution alone. What the government can give them is very limited. We have have an avenue where members of the Alumni would be able to assist the school to improve the school.

“I urge all the participants to seize the opportunity to learn from these skills made available for them and improve on themselves. It is an era of technology,” he reiterated.

UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, commended the Alumni body while urging the students to learn technological skills as the future revolves around it.

Her words;” One thing that’s very sure is that technology is the future. Any young person at this time who’s not technologically sound, is going to have a challenge in the future. In every aspect, the more you know how to handle technology, the better.

“I like the topics they brought out such as digital analysis. One thing that we are doing in today’s world is generating data. These are the jobs of the future.

“This is an opportunity I encourage students to take very seriously. They have to push themselves because the reward comes later.”

Chairman, UNILAG Alumni Association, Lagos branch, said: “The world now revolves around technology. If you’re not involved in it, you’re out.

“In order to prepare our students, we keyed into this training. The students should ensure they are constantly in the classes, because, they would be evaluation of what they have learnt. It’s also going to be certificate awarding program.

“The Alumni body is sponsoring three UNILAG students who would be representing Nigeria in World University Game.

Social Secretary of the Association, Dimeji Lamiu said; “This is our way of giving back to our school. We are not stopping here. We would make sure we support the school and the VC as well.”
