UNIJOS Lecturers Ends Industrial Action
Lecturers at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have called off its industrial action.
It will be recalled that the Unijos lecturers embarked on strike last year October over demands of improved working conditions.
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Mr. Solomon Dalung, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai and the Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Chris Piwuna, the university agreed to pay all the outstanding allowances to the lecturers.
The minister, who facilitated the meeting between the University management and the leadership of ASUU, thanked the two parties and urged them to work together in the interest of the students.
Following the agreement, the ASUU members resolved to call off the strike and resume academic activities immediately.
