The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has urged collective action to protect education and secure schools across the country, saying it is key to Nigeria’s future.
Mrs Tinubu, a former teacher, made the call on Tuesday in her message marking the 2025 International Day to Protect Education from Attack.
This year’s theme is “Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action.” According to her, it is a reminder to go beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to keep learners, teachers, and schools safe.
“The theme calls us to move beyond words and take stronger action to safeguard education,” she said.
She stressed that education must never be compromised, warning that neglecting the safety of schools would endanger the nation’s future.
“Education is the foundation of hope, and safeguarding it means securing our future.
“I appreciate organisations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and the Education Above All Foundation for their efforts in advancing child education globally,” she said.
While acknowledging the work of security agencies, the First Lady urged them to strengthen efforts.
“In Nigeria, our security agencies are doing their best, but protecting schools must remain a shared national priority.”
