Subsidy: Transport Firm Offers FCT Residents Free Mobility

A digital technological transport firm, Nairaxi has offered residents of the Federal Capital Territory free, convenient, and subsidised mobility initiatives as a palliative to support commuters.

The initiative at present is for average and low-income earners who work in the FCT but reside in satellite towns of the city.

Expressing gratitude, beneficiaries of a free transit card and subsidised transport services in the city commended Nairaxi and its partner Firstplus for the well-timed and impactful assistance.

The transport firm has been providing free fare services through its automated BRT buses to get commuters accustomed to the technological infrastructure, which is a modern, scheduled, secured, monitored, digital and efficient system.

This is even as the tech giant unveiled the digitised mass transit system a few weeks ago, which visualises a venture into a future of flawless and enjoyable commuting experiences.

Chief Executive Officer of Nairaxi, Kingsley Eze, while speaking to journalists on Sunday, elucidated that the objective is to support transport operators in the FCT for inexpensive and profitable transport services despite subsidy removal and the mounting cost of transportation, noting that the system can be adopted by federal, state governments, including private transport operators.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu announced at his inaugural speech the removal of fuel subsidy from July 1, 2023, emphasising that his government will not provide funds to subsidise fuel, leading to a sharp increase in the cost of transportation and giving rise to complaints by Nigerians.

This initiative will influence technology to improve direction-finding plans that will reduce congestion and develop the overall efficiency of the public transport system in Nigeria and particularly the FCT.

Expressing her appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Florence Adagba, a civil servant, stated, “I am impressed with this initiative; in the last week I have been enjoying free transportation to and fro office and home. They gave us free transit cards and we are so happy.

Also speaking, Yinka Abdulwahab urged FG to consider Nairaxi and other transport operators, noting that transport operators must be taken along with regards to subsidy palliatives to subsidise transport services that directly concern the people.”
