Earlier in his welcome address, the facilitator, Hakeem Suara, who is also an alumnus, explained that the competition had been on for the past four months as participating students were not just handpicked.

He said, “The first prize winner will get a sum of N50,000, while the second prize goes with N30,000, and the third prize is N20,000. Not only that, they were also given books and dictionaries. The same thing goes for the junior category as well.

“What we normally do is that we ask their parents to send their account details and deposit the money there. You can imagine you gave that boy N50,000 now, they will slap his face at that gate and collect the money, so we ask their parents to send details to us and deposit the money there.”

Also speaking, the National President of Ibadan Grammar School Old Students Association, Balogun Oyetola, described the competition as a great initiative that has impacted positively students, particularly in English language and Literature.
