Scholarship For Indigent Female Students

A non-profit organisation, Ajesola Solarin Majekodunmi Foundation (ASMAF), has given scholarships to five female undergraduates.

The Founder, Prof. Ajesola Majekodunmi, said the programme is to provide financial assistance to brilliant students. She is the first female medical professor in Remo, Ogun State.

“I was influenced to set up the Foundation based on my observation way back in my undergraduate days, how some brilliant but indigent female students in public universities go through a lot of stress to pay their school fees. The Foundation will also mentor the students by attaching them to individuals who have succeeded in their chosen careers.”

Majekodunmi, who stressed the need for the girl-child to be given the best education for her to be reckoned with in the society, added: “We have trained doctors, lawyers, engineers and dentists from indigent families whose parents could not afford their university education. Now they have become breadwinners of those families.”

Beneficiaries cut across the six zones of the country, with 17 girls having benefitted so far.

Chairman of the ICPC Prof. Bolaji Awosanoye, who chaired the occasion, praised Majekodunmi for addressing the crucial issue of gender inequality through the scheme. He appealed to well meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to support the project.
