Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade now has a two-year deal with French giants PSG Feminine.
PSG announced Ajibade’s signing on Monday, exactly a month after she led Nigeria to a 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. According to sources in France, she had been training with the club ahead of the new season.
Ajibade’s unveiling video, which was shared by the club, showed her Super Falcons teammate, Jeniffer Echegini, showing her around the club, symbolising the potential partnership she would form with the midfielder.
“We know ourselves very well from the national team. I call her my sister because she’s a very unique person and, of course, a very amazing and special footballer,” Ajibade said.
“I think that would play a major role for me to quickly get integrated into the team because, when you see your teammate and you’ve played a lot of times, it helps to quickly get along with the team and, of course, with the rest of the players as well.”
The former FC Robo player also spoke about the followership of PSG in Nigeria, noting the influence of former Nigerian midfielder, Okocha, who played for the French club between 1998 to 2002.
“Well, I think it’s also one of those top clubs, you know, and of course, looking at the big success story of the men’s team as well, winning the Champions League.
“PSG also have a mark in Nigeria because of Okocha. His tremendous skills and everything. So, it’s big for us, and PSG is a part of our family back home in Nigeria because Okocha is a very big player for us.”
Ajibade began her career at FC Robo in the Nigeria Women’s Football League.
She was crowned as Nigeria Football Federation’s Young Player of the Year in 2018, when she also broke into the Falcons’ title-winning squad for the WAFCON.
The 25-year-old last featured for Atletico Madrid Women, where she made 139 appearances and scored 40 goals during her four-year spell in Spain.
Her time at the club was decorated with two major trophies, the 2021 Spanish Super Cup and the 2023 Copa de la Reina, while establishing herself as one of the most pivotal figures.
