Police Lecture Corps Members On Cybercrime, Citizen Rights In Delta

The Delta State Police Command has engaged members of the National Youth Service Corps in the state in a lecture series on cybercrime, law enforcement, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, police accountability, and community policing.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Warri on Wednesday.

Edafe explained that the lecture was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to revive interactive sessions with corps members across the country as part of efforts to reshape their outlook on life.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed him to deliver the lecture at the NYSC orientation camp in commemoration of Independence Day.

Nigeria marks its Independence Day on October 1 each year, celebrating the nation’s liberation from British colonial rule in 1960.

The occasion is observed across the country with presidential speeches, official events, cultural displays, and community celebrations, alongside special programmes organised by schools and state governments.

This year, however, the federal government called off the traditional military parades.

The session was described as an insightful and interactive engagement, during which corps members asked questions and received clarifications on various issues.

“The corps members were encouraged to remain good ambassadors of their country, shun crime and violence, and uphold honesty and kindness in their future endeavours. They were also reminded of their rights and responsibilities as citizens, including respecting the Constitution and institutions, promoting national interest, showing patriotism, and assisting law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace within communities,” the statement read in part.

It added that the police provided corps members with avenues for lodging complaints, including dedicated phone numbers, in cases of misconduct or abuse by officers.
