
Graduates of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, have been told to strive to make positive impact in the society particularly in the development of agriculture.
Rector of the institution, Professor Akinola Akinlabi, gave the charge during the second combined convocation of the school held last Friday.
The convocation ceremony consists of eight (8) sets of graduands, which include the years: 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 in the College.
Akinlabi, while delivering his convocation address noted that:”Throughout this convocation address, I have emphasised the importance of focus. Focus on your life pursuit, focus on your goals and focus on making a positive impact in the world, especially in the area of your specialisation which is agriculture.
“It is this unwavering focus that has brought you to this milestone today, and it will continue to guide you as you step into the next chapter of your lives. Now those with HND can come for upgrade to BSc. I urge you, graduates, to approach the future with courage, resilience and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Embrace challenges with an open mind, seize opportunities with enthusiasm, and never stop learning.”
In his address, Governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, said:” I cannot hide my love and passion for this institution being the only state-owned institution that specialises in agriculture and Technology.
“Without mincing words, this institution is notable for supporting the various initiatives of my administration in our quest and desire to diversify the economy through agriculture and agribusiness; this explains the rationale and cardinal objectives of the various agricultural programmes initiated by the state government. “I therefore wish to express my appreciation to Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, and its Management team for sharing our vision and strategic plans, particularly in the area of capacity building for farmers and youths in the state.”
“As we witness the graduation of a new generation of leaders and innovators, I want to emphasise the importance of embracing entrepreneurship in today’s world. The future belongs to those who are willing to take risks, think creatively, and seize opportunities. I urge you all to channel your knowledge and skills towards creating businesses that not only benefit yourselves but also contribute to the growth and development of our society.
“In line with our administration’s commitment to agriculture and agribusiness, I encourage the graduands to explore opportunities in these sectors. Agriculture remains a vital sector of our economy, with the potential to create jobs, drive economic growth, and ensure food security. By investing in agriculture and agribusiness, you can play a significant role in transforming our state and the nation at large.”
