Oduduwa Varsity: Promoter Of Gbagede Imo To Appear In Court November 11

The promoter of an online media platform, Gbagede Imo TV, Adebayo Alawiye, will again appear in court on November 11.

Adebayo and others at large were accused of making defamatory statements on a live broadcast studio against the Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Osun State.

Adebayo who is currently standing trial at the Yaba Magistrates Court, Lagos, had earlier been granted bail in the sum of five million naira with two sureties who must be civil servants in Grades 13 and 14.

The case has been adjourned till November 11, 2023, for further hearing.

It will be recalled that Mr. Alawiye Adebayo and others now at larg were accused of blackmail, cyber bullying, unlawful interference with the judicial process;

They were also accused of exhibiting conduct in a public place in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace in Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section ‘168 (d)’ of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

They were also accused of unlawfully and intentionally making a defamatory publication on YouTube viral video on Imo BGI TV channel, (not registered with the National Broadcasting Commission, Abuja) live broadcast studio which is likely to injure the reputation of Oduduwa University, knowing full well that Oduduwa University is a corporate organisation with directors and shareholders that can sue and be sued.

The contempt and ridicule committed is an offence punishable under Section 373 of the Criminal Code Cap c38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
