OAU Shut Down after Workers’ Protest

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU) has been indefinitely shut down following a continuous protest carried out by Non-academic Staff of University (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU) of the institution.
The incident which happened a week before students of the institution who had been on a two-month break were to resume was confirmed by the registrar of the school, Dotun Awoyemo in a telephone conversation with punch, “We have shut down the university indefinitely pending the time that we will resolve issues with our workers – Non-academic Staff of University (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU).” He said.
He also said that the newly admitted students have been advised to go home and the resumption of the old students has been postponed indefinitely. According to punch, the protest reached its peak after Prof. Ayobami Salam was appointed the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.
