The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, in a move expected to boost healthcare education and service delivery in Adamawa State.
Leader of the NUC assessment panel, Professor Auwal Abubakar, disclosed the approval while presenting the team’s findings to the state government.
He noted that while the project is a significant step forward, there is a need to ensure adequate manpower to effectively run the 24 proposed departments of the college.
Responding on behalf of the government, the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, said the establishment of the college had long been in the state’s development plans. She assured the NUC of the government’s full commitment to the successful take-off of the institution.
Farauta reiterated that the health sector remains a top priority of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable healthcare development. She added that the new college would play a critical role in improving healthcare delivery within Adamawa State and beyond.
As part of the assessment process, the NUC panel visited the Specialist Hospital in Mubi to evaluate its suitability for upgrade into a teaching hospital. The team also inspected facilities at ADSU, expressing satisfaction with the infrastructure and equipment on ground.
