Nicki Minaj dropped her “Regret in Your Tears” video, a song she described as her “favorite of all time,” via Tidal exclusively Monday morning (May 1).
The video was shot by photographer duo Mert and Marcus (Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott), primarily known for their fashion endeavors, but who also directed the music video for Madonna‘s “Girl Gone Wild” in 2012.
The visual finds the Queens rapper in a forest-y oasis and clinging tightly to her shirtless partner on a floating bed. Submerged in water, Minaj croons about her lover regretting their break-up just before he gets trapped in the deep blue and tears eventually fall down his face.
“Blown away by their work. Honored. The stars aligned. Only video they shot was for MADONNA,” Minaj tweeted when a fan asked why she chose to work with them.
The rapper, who sings on the breakup track, first announced the “Regret in Your Tears” video premiere on Saturday via social media, keeping the Barbz and Kenz on edge and firing up their Tidal accounts — if applicable.
