New Tax Reform Implementation Won’t Lead To Tuition Fees Hike — FG

The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians, particularly students and parents that the implementation of the new tax reform law will not lead to tuition fee hikes by tertiary institutions in the country.

This government clarification is coming just as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has endorsed the new tax reform law and called off its proposed nationwide protest earlier scheduled for 14th January, 2025 against the implementation of the law.

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, allayed fears expressed by students at the NANS Expanded National Executive Council (ENEC) meeting and stakeholders’ engagement forum held on Tuesday in Abuja that the new law would lead to a possible hike in school fees at tertiary institutions.

The tax czar highlighted significant provisions of the tax law that would directly benefit the students and low income earners in the country, saying the law aims to make more money available to state governments for investment in development of education and infrastructure in the country.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Oladoja has announced the suspension of the proposed nationwide protest following the conclusion of the National Assembly’s investigation and clarifications made on the alleged alterations of the tax reform Act.
