The saying that what you don’t have, you don’t give was the notion that made the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, Lagos Chapter, collaborate with the Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, to organise a one-day free training on the integration of Artificial Intelligence, AI, in school management.
The training saw registered school owners, including students, exposed to various AI tools such as ChatGPT 4.0, Gemini, and Nova chat, among others, to help solve and address challenges in the running of schools.
Speaking at the event held in Lagos, the Lagos Chapter Chairman of NAPPS and the host of the event, Mr Samuel Bodunde, noted that the need to equip school owners with useful emerging trends, especially as they relate to innovations in AI, formed the reason for the training.
His words:” You see Al is the new reality. And if you don’t know it or have the tools and skills, you may be missing out on a lot of things. So, seeing the enormous impacts, we partnered with Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, which was the resourced team to train our teachers.
“So far we are happy with the turnout and prospect of participants. And we want to appreciate our partner who made this initiative possible, and a success.”
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, noted that beyond knowing the tools of AI, one key aspect that owners should learn is how to use it for cybersecurity.
His words: “Cyber security is also relevant to AI. AI will further increase ethics in school management, such as the protection and promotion of the rights of staff and students, protection of human/ school dignity, and fundamental freedom, i.e. your AI allows you to question it.
“We are happy to collaborate with NAPPS to bring the training to school owners in Lagos,” he said.
The training, which was free for participants, also had a free lunch and certificate for those in attendance.
Praising the initiative, the National Chairman of NAPPS, Chief Yomi Otubela, expressed satisfaction with the level of the organisation, resourced persons, and participants
