Monarch Donates 16-hectare Land to Nasarawa NYSC

The Andoma of Doma Kingdom, Nasarawa State His Royal Majesty (HRM) Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Oga Onawo has donated 16 hectares of farmland to the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for farming.

The inauguration of the farmland was done by the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe ahead of the 2021 farming season by corps members in Doma.

In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of NYSC, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the Deputy Governor promised more support for the NYSC scheme in its quest to support the Federal Government’s agenda on the diversification of the economy, and also improve agricultural practice, food production and self-sufficiency.

He commended the Andoma for supporting the vision of the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim by releasing the land to encourage agricultural practice that would lead to a bumper harvest of different agricultural products.

The Deputy Governor, who was represented by Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Prof. Alanana Ofaki, appealed to corps members to embrace all opportunities of the value chain agribusiness for their empowerment.

The NYSC Director-General said the scheme would continue to train corps members who are interested in farming, using its farms across the country.

He commended the Andoma of Doma and the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority for their gesture towards the scheme.  He said the NYSC Scheme has keyed into the Federal Government’s agenda of diversification of the economy and would continue to leverage the potential of corps members for improved productivity.
