Micheal Jackson, Bob Marley Among Top-Earning Deceased Stars

In the latest report from ‘Forbes,’ we get a glimpse of the highest-paid deceased stars in 2023. While this year’s total earnings of $470 million are significantly lower than the previous year’s $1.6 billion, it’s an interesting shift.

Last year, the list was largely boosted by artists’ estates selling their back catalogs, but this year, it’s a different story. Only Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek made the list for such sales.

According to entertainment lawyer Bernard Resnick, companies buying up catalogs have faced capital exhaustion, and it has become more expensive to borrow money, making it harder for them to make significant purchases.

As a result, the 2023 list features a more typical set of consistent earners. Iconic superstar Michael Jackson reclaimed the top spot after four years with earnings of $115 million.

Following him are Elvis with $100 million and Ray Manzarek with $45 million. Dr. Seuss and Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz rounded out the top five with $40 million and $30 million, respectively.

While Jimmy Buffet, the billionaire singer, is too recently deceased to make this year’s list, he is expected to dominate the rankings in 2024. Shortly after his passing, Buffet achieved the first number-one hit of his career.

Here’s a list of the top ten highest-paid deceased celebrities in 2023:

  1. Michael Jackson – $115 million
  2. Elvis – $100 million
  3. Ray Manzarek – $45 million
  4. Dr. Seuss – $40 million
  5. Charles M. Schulz – $30 million
  6. Prince – $30 million
  7. Whitney Houston – $30 million
  8. John Lennon – $22 million
  9. Bob Marley – $16 million
  10. Bing Crosby – $14 million

You can find the complete list on the ‘Forbes’ website. This year’s ranking showcases the enduring appeal and financial success of these legendary figures even after their passing.
