Merry Men 3 Claims Top Spot In Nigerian Box Office With N33.4 Million Earnings

Data sourced from the Cinema Association of Nigeria reveals that Merry Men 3 enjoyed a substantial N18.6 million weekend haul, complemented by an additional N14.8 million during the period from Monday, October 16th to October 19th, 2023. This impressive earnings sum up to a remarkable N33.4 million since its grand debut on Saturday, October 13th, 2023.

While Merry Men 3 encountered a 54% decrease in ticket sales during its opening weekend, tallying a total of N17.1 million, it has since made an impressive comeback, outperforming both Merry Men 1 (₦48,699,026) and Merry Men 2 (₦37,244,420). The previous installment, Merry Men 2, which hit theaters in December 2019, set a high bar for this latest sequel.

In the high-octane sequel, three of the merry men confront Dafe, portrayed by Chidi Mokeme, who seeks vengeance after being abandoned during a prior mission in Russia. Dafe sets his sights on corrupt politicians, believing that the group has failed to deliver justice.

Directed by Moses Inwang, Merry Men 3 boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, including AY Makun, Ramsey Nouah, William Uchemba, Sam Dede, Segun Arinze, Bucci Franklin, Nadia Buari, Jide Kosoko, Ufuoma McDermott, Iyabo Ojo, Francis Onwochei, Regina Daniels, and Caroline Hutchings.

According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), Merry Men 3’s seven-day gross revenue has propelled it to the top of the charts, surpassing Expandables 4, which now occupies the second spot with a seven-day gross of N14.6 million and a total gross of N97.9 million.

Meanwhile, “Something Like Gold,” another Nollywood gem, secures the fourth position with seven-day earnings of N11.5 million and a total gross of N45.1 million. “A Weekend To Forget” takes the fifth place with N6.2 million in earnings and a total gross of N44.1 million. The Nigerian box office continues to captivate audiences with its diverse cinematic offerings.
