Maiden Social Media Awards To Hold In Lagos

Individuals and organisations that use social media in innovative and impactful ways are to be honoured in Lagos in September at the maiden edition of the Social Media Awards (SMA).

The event’s organiser, Alternative Adverts Ltd, said it was important because social media is a battleground for ideas, opinions, and events.

The firm’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and convener of the awards, Emmanuel Nwafor, told journalists in Lagos that social media has played a pivotal role in shaping public discourse, mobilizing communities, and giving voice to the voiceless.

“The Social Media Award (SMA) is an initiative aimed at applauding and rewarding all facets of efforts upholding the social media world and enabling an improving system.

“It seeks to unleash the hidden or undiscovered potentials to inspire a continuous higher realm of creativity and innovation.

“The awards will have multiple categories, ranging from Campaign Awards, General Awards, Content Awards, and Video Awards, with several groupings and categories under each,” he said.

Mr Nwafor said only those who are pushing the boundaries of what social media can do whether it’s spreading joy, raising awareness for important causes, or simply providing useful information and entertainment will be awarded.

“The winners will be decided through online voting, ensuring the most credible and transparent award in Nigeria,” he added.

Mr Nwafor noted that the nomination process is on and closes on June 30, 2023 via www.sma.com.

He added: “Anyone can nominate an individual or organization for one of the award categories. Voting will commence on the 1st of July 2023 and closes on the 31st August 2023.

“The SMA 2023 is a laudable milestone in the history of our country. It is an opportunity to showcase the best of Nigeria’s digital talents, to inspire innovation and excellence, and to recognize those who are using social media for good. We encourage every social media user to participate in nominating individuals or organizations for one of the award categories.”
